Meet Karen

Since 2009, I have had the opportunity to work with a close-knit group of light-hearted and dependable colleagues that work well together.  This family atmosphere is what has kept me at London Tax Depot as a bookkeeper and personal tax preparer for 12 years.  This experience with the company has given me a chance to connect with and help clients of differing backgrounds from newlyweds and families to proprietors and seniors.  As of January 2021, I have successfully completed the Professional Income Tax Course with Knowledge Bureau.  Being up to date with the most recent changes to accounting software allows me to better serve my clients.

I graduated in 1996 from a 3-year program in Medical Laboratory Technology.  The lack of jobs available at the time forced me to refocus my career.  My completion of a module on accounting software spurred my interest in accounting.  After a few years of exploring, I realized that there was a real need and opportunity in this field.  In 1997, I completed a one-year program in Computerized Office 2000 which gave me marketable skills.  This is when, in 2004, Business World Tax Consultants hired me for data entry and bookkeeping.  There, I met and learned to appreciate my colleague, Rob Lockie.  When he decided to branch out on his own, his determination to improve himself and invest in his future incited me to follow.  To this day, we are still Trekkie fans.

I grew up in Dunnville, a small town that borders the Grand River on the north shore of Lake Erie.  I was raised on a pork and beef cattle farm and was always a bit tom-boyish.  This is where my love of pets and gardening began.  I have a two-year-old German Shephard named Freya.  She is my princess; I don’t know who has trained who.  I have a small backyard garden which pales in comparison to the quarter acre garden I grew up with, but it keeps me busy.  I come from a family of five and I go back to the farm every chance I get.  In the summer months, we carry on the tradition of harvesting and preserving the bounty!  There is always enough food and laughter to go around for everyone.
